The Blizzard of 06!!

My big snow has finally happened! I'm ecstatic :-D. It started on Saturday night and I was out walking with Mr. James Stanley and I think this was the first time he has really been out in the snow in his 3 years so he got very excited at the prospect of seeing snowmen and also liked the way his boots made a crunchy sound as we walked back from dinner. From then on, it snowed and snowed and snowed until there was about 2 feet on the ground and covering my window

Happy New Year of the Dog

A few days have passed since this very fun Sunday outing with Floating Head, but here are some pics so that you can get a sampling of our day... it was EXTREMELY crowded, but once we walked a bit, we actually ended up finding a pretty good viewing spot, considering how many people were there...and I'm not big on parades, but this one was so much fun, very colorful and joyous and made me feel happy... so I think this will be on my annual to do list from now on... afterwards we had ate at Joe's Shanghai - food was pretty good but wait staff = GRUMPY. It is off the list!! Next time, we will try the Vegetable Dim Sum House located on what appeared to be Diagon Alley... we swore we had some floo powder and indeed we did!

And in the excitement department, for next weekend, an adventure has been planned...Floating Head, Magpie, and myself will be taking the Chinatown Express to Boston 7am Saturday morning, getting in at noon and returning on Monday evening! More details to follow... for now, it's back to work for me :-D

The Supper Club Initiation Begins

Tonight is the first official Supper Club meeting of 2006! On tonight's agenda: Indian food in the West Village. Attendees include: myself, Floating Head, Magpie, Mrs. Cohen and perhaps a Mr. Cohen (although Magpie said he had a singing gig so maybe no?). The idea behind Supper Club is that there are so many restaurants to try in NYC and you tend to stick to what you know, so every couple of weeks, each member has to come up with a new restaurant and new cuisine to indulge in. Lovely! New members are welcome, so anyone who would like to join, please inform your local contact. Tomorrow I see the film Capote and buy some hangers and storage for the new clothes that I bought last night..7 shirts/sweaters and 5 pairs of pants, as well as some new underwear...new clothes are needed because I needed a little sprucing up...I need to throw away some old crappy stuff that is dull and ugly and move on to colorful, pretty, cutesy stuff..agreed! Plus, it's no-tax week...so why not spend a little on making myself look better? I've been feeling very ugly and rundown looking for some reason, very blah. My sunday is to be spent celebrating the Year of the Dog (the Bounty Hunter..I love him, I wish I could have visited Veronica when she lived in Hawaii so that I could have tried to meet him) and watching the dragon parade and going to the festival and then some dim sum or some such foodstuffs afterwards...red bean buns hopefully.

Good Smell Alert!

My recent food obsession has been spinach. I like to eat it raw with toasted sesame oil and teriyaki sauce drizzled on top...so I ate that for lunch today and my whole office smells like toasted sesame oil... IT'S WONDERFUL ... for those of you in the vicinity, please stop by and take a whiff!

Beans, Beans the Magical Friend

Naomi and family were in town for the week visiting so I got to spend some time with them at dinner at L'Express last week and then on Saturday, I met them at the Museum of Natural History, where Sam was extremely impressed by what he saw...and he impressed me as well. Not only did he know all the real names of the animals (such as kudus - which I had only heard of last spring when Cindy and I went to Disney World and saw some kudus at our resort) but he knows all the names of the dinosaurs too! And he knew that kangaroos are marsupials... he's one of the smartest little boys I've ever met! He's only 2! This kid has a bright future, I'm sure :-)

Friday night, I finally got to meet some of the characters in the Story of Magpie - I am already quite familiar with Mrs. Cohen, but now I can say I've met (and had dinner no less) with Mr. Twinkle as well as The Jza. We saw Underworld:Evolution which as Magpie has already blogged about, was seen purely for its entertainment value and not to be evaluated for anything more than that...and I really liked it, but then I love all the gothic-y, vampirish type stuff anyway...and Lycans - must not forget those loveable, albeit hairy, lycans.

But point of post is also to say this: I was informed yesterday that I've received a promotion! So all my hard work over the past year has not gone without reward and I can say thank you to Mr. McGee for pushing this all through for me... I hope the good karma he has collected will come back to him, as he also deserves good things! They've also hired a temp, who may very well turn into a full-time junior me so to speak, and already, he's helped out my workload...so maybe 2006 won't be so shitty after all... I was hoping for something good to happen and I was told something was in the works, but you know how that goes...so anyway, cheers to me! The extra money will be put to the Conspiracy Corner Goes to Japan/India Fund...and Saving to Buy a Soundproof Apartment Fund (yeah right, does that exist?) or the Pay Someone to Smother the Nazi Above Me In His Sleep Fund... oh the possibilities...!
